Bind25, Workshops & other News

I know I know, it’s been an incredibly long gap between updates but on the bright side we do not fill your inbox up with unnecessary junk.

The BIG news is the Bind25 bookbinding conference is to be held in September in Auckland New Zealand this year. A great opportunity to combine a holiday with bookbinding and you don’t have to sit on a plane for 24 hours!

In conjunction with Bind25 Andersen’s Bindery is pleased to announce that we will be hosting classes with Coleen Curry.  Coleen is an award-winning contemporary design binder and book artist. Her aim is to craft technically evocative books that evoke a visual, sensual, and tactile experience. You will be able to read more about Coleen in our News, “In Focus” article soon. This year Coleen will be teaching two classes on consecutive weekends which will tie together beautifully.

The first class Leather Dyeing and Surface Techniques you will explore some of the wonderful innovative treatments which Coleen uses to create her unique bindings. You will learn how to creatively manipulate and dye leathers to be used as covers, onlays and inlays. If you are attending both classes you can use one of these leathers as your cover in the second class.

In the second class we will be making a multi-section flexible leather binding, with leather doublures and a wrap-around suede flyleaf. This lay-flat technique is a simple but elegant entry into the world of leather bindings and Coleen will show us a number of decorative techniques to make your binding unique.

We have a very limited number of places for these two classes and you will not want to miss this opportunity to learn from one of the worlds most creative designer bookbinders.

In other news, we are thrilled with the beautiful work by Matt Dwight. If you haven’t seen his presses yet and you are in Sydney please pop in to take a look. Last week we received our first order of Headbanding presses, these are small presses which can be used as finishing presses, headbanding or spine lining. They are the lightest and smallest of the wooden presses designed by Hugo Peller and easy to store or carry with you. We also received another delivery of the press-on-legs, this is a raised press with legs that hook over the side of your bench to keep the press still while you work. This is the press that I use every day in my work. The craftsmanship is sensational, you will not be disappointed.

As you may or may not know some of our range of bookbinding cloth is no longer available however we have new stock coming in to replace the old. Cialux is one of our new ranges and we are adding colours as we sell out of the Iris. Keep an eye on our range as we are changing and updating it all the time. If you are after something special, please send us an email.

We also order new leathers regularly so if you need to make a special order let us know.

Happy binding everyone.
